Once more you write with brilliance, passion, and foresight.

I am older than you, old enough to be in middle school for the Kennedy assassination touchstone (Life was every after: "Before Kennedy/After Kennedy"). I am struck by these generational touchstones. "Before 9-11/After 9-11." It breaks my heart.

I remember full well that sense of unity immediately post-9/11. If only it could have lasted.

Yes, we've descended into a low point. But here is a glimmer of hope:

I am 600 pages into "Alexander Hamilton" by Ron Chernow, the biography on which the musical is based. I am gobsmacked that what we are seeing now is not new. The rancor, the hatred, the vitriol that overshadowed the early years of the nation were just like it is today. Self-serving legislators. The fight for partisan control. Lies. Rumors. Ugliness. All of it.

Our nation overcame it then and it will now. It will take time, it won't be easy, or simple, but in the end evil will not win. Goodness, and good people, will prevail.
