lol good post keep it up

I believe we will see Paula on ever AI show for as long as they both shall live. Fox will not remove Paula from the show - face it - she's entertainment. Odd entertainment, like watching Britney go to Starbucks for the 743rd time, but entertainment that sells and keeps people watching.

After all, part of the fun of this show is grousing and commenting on the bad, just as much as enjoying the good. On a weekly basis, the person who is the "worst" is the focus of the show.

She is also playing her part, which is the "good one." Simon is the bad one, Randy is the moderate one, and Paula is the good one. If she goes, we'll just get someone else who farts ponies and rainbows.

And if Paula ever does something so far across the line that Fox can no longer poo-poo her issues, then they will stick her into rehab and make her a martyr/cause celebre. Certainly wouldn't kick her off then either - they would look to cold and callous. Heck, she's probably protected by ADA laws at this point.

My God, what a boring season this one has become.
Where is the good old season 5 vibe?

Personally I think the Themes are boring, boring, boring.
Mariah Carey, Musical songs from ALW, Neil Diamond...
What can you expect from these themes?
Combined with contestants with a serious lack of personality, there you are.
I know a lot of people like musicals, I personally hate it.
Although ALW in person is a very interesting, honest and sensitive person.

My problem is: I don't care who wins.
This show makes itself bigger than the contestants can handle, and is therefore more a pre-calculated format than a program about people with great ambitions.

And stop talking about Da Bomb, Randy.
It's becoming ridiculous right now.

Perhaps I find it odd that so many people see a connection with Brooke but no one has any connection with Syesha. Are we really judging their vocal talent or something else? People loved Brooke because she's "nice" but as Simon says -- and he is right about this -- it's supposed to be a singing competition. Syesha is a better singer than either Brooke or Jason but no one wants to give her any props. I am not sure why she isn't considered nice enough -- if we compare her to Brooke, I am pretty sure that Brooke talked back to the judges much more often and we all know how much she pouted. Those aren't necessarily nice traits in my book. When my daughter talks back, I definitely am not happy. To ginny also, yes I am way old enough to remember Carly Simon singing You're So Vain and I don't remember her smiling through the whole song. I'll have to see if it's on youtube somewhere.

Well, I guess we don't see it the same way -- I was not unhappy to see Brooke go. I can think of several contestants this season with better voices than her. I definitely didn't think her past two to three weeks were great performances. Starting over was definitely a low point -- just my opinion, but that doesn't seem very professional nor does it show much confidence. She may be a nice person but we aren't voting for that.

I got a 9 out of 10 on the Paula test.

Ginny, can I borrow your bag of hammers??

to justadiversion...i guess you have never seen carley simon sing "your so vain"...she too smiled thru it all...its a song joking about someone she had an affair with...it isnt angry...i think one thing brook did was connect with the songs...she picked ones that had meaning to her...hummm maybe i havent been watching the same television show as you...
to theresa from virginia...are you the funny woman i call va in the chat room???...you knew i had to blow off some steam after my favorite left..."ill get you my pritty...and your little dog too"...and if your not va...well then nevermind...g.

Well, Brooke never really connected to her songs either. She smiled all the way through "You're So Vain" which is an angry song, not a happy-go-lucky song. I think Syesha has made major improvements in the last few weeks and certainly her voice is strong. It may not be the best ever on Idol but it's good. This in my opinion is not a strong year anyway.

I'm glad she's gone. Did she really think she was going to win? I too noticed Cooky stand when Natasha ran across the stage.

To Tiffany: I would stab myself in both eyes with sharp objects if Baby David sings Marvin Gaye or Etta James -- OMG! My poor 16 year old Pomeranian who can't even hear would probably howl over that one!

To Ginny: Tell us how you really feel! Ha! Ha!

I'm for David Cook all the way -- no competition from the others at all as far as I'm concerned.

But I have to admit that Jason is cute as a button -- I told my 23-year-old daughter that I'd like to bring him home and sit him on my mantel just to look cute! :)

Tamara - About your comment that other live-show judges don't mess up like Paula... I have to disagree.

Hubby and I are DWTS fanatics and Bruno Tonioli acts like he's stoked to the gills on cocaine every week. And he's popped off with some MAJOR live bloopers during the show. Anyone remember the night that he was critiquing Ian Ziering and he said, "You started off like Mr. McDreamy and ended up like Mr. McStiffy"? I thought everyone in the audience was going to lose their minds - it was so funny, even Tom Bergeron was losing it. I, myself, fell off the sofa because I was laughing so hard. That comment was talked about for weeks. He says completely insane stuff on every show.

I know there's a difference - his native language isn't English - but he's totally off the wall most nights. I've actually been very surprised that he hasn't been at the top of the "bash" lists, right there with Paula.

Len Goodman has had several "slips of the tongue" over the years, and a couple of the "So You Think You Can Dance" judges have acted quite loopy, too.

Don't get me wrong - I'm NO Paula Abdul fan by any stretch of the imagination. And I do think she has some very serious problems. But she's not the only live-show judge who acts bizarre.

Syesha has one problem --IMHO-- her voice may be great but she fails connect emotionally with what she's singing. She just seems to ignore the CONTENT of the lyric and do a listen-to-my-great-voice job.
But DC is THE MAN this year. Hope he's as savvy about his contracts and business as Taylor Hicks---who, by the way, is still HUGE in the SE and with his fan base.

Just wonderin' -- do you know the Archuletas personally? Because everything I've heard and read from people who know the family (I don't know them) defend Jeff A. to the hilt as being very supportive of his son (who he required to be with 24/7, since he's a minor). I'm getting really sick of the dad bashing -- it was funny for about 5 minutes. Actually, some of the stuff is still funny, but I try to remember that these are real people involved.

ok i took the paula test....

i got...

ohhhhh momma now you will all know im nuts....

i got...

10 out of 10 right...quick someone hit me in the head with a bag of hammers...
g.

yes i saw the robin williams offering on svu...he is terrific...and no i dont think he died...no ripples in the water....ohhhhh a return hopefully...and yes i used the sheep reference and i should have given credit for it sorry...and yes mam linda is wonder woman when it comes to a good turn of a word ...or lots of words for that matter...as far as im concerned linda is better than any antidepressant ive ever taken...at least i have something to look forward to in the morning...linda you should go onstage...now that would be something to see...i love you for making me laugh...and i thank you for tolerating my ranting...i have met so many nice folks thru this blogg and chat room...and linda, should you ever need it...ill even give you a kidney...you can even have the one that works 60%, its my best one...g.

From what I have read alot of shows run over by 2-3 min so that your TIVO will not record another competing show at the same time.

Anyway, I love Neil.
But his song SUCKED.
Made Jason Castro look great.

Paula's excuse is ridiculous. How come shes always the one with the "technical difficulties" (remember last year she was in an interview and babbled completely unrelated stuff and then blames it on the fact that her earpiece was messed up so she was not hearing the questions?)
Why dont these things ever happen to Randy, Simon or any other Live Show judges like Bruno, CarrieAnn, Len Goodman, Nigel etc...

How come Paula is the only one who this repeatedly happens to?

Idol has to only be keeping her around bc of the mockery factor.
Really what other value does she bring to the show?

Here's how you know what she is saying is not true.
Bc IF she really were reading the notes off David Cook's performance, then it makes even less sense.

Didnt she love David Cook last night?
Didnt she say she thinks "she is already looking at the next American Idol"? to him?

Then why did she say that his "second song" was not great, if she really was reading her notes about David Cook's performance?

Were the rumors Ryan was referring to that she was being fired?
Bc I do believe that she wont be fired.

She had endured many idiotic comments that make no sense, and even the Corey scandal where they had her voice in a voicemail to him, and shes still not fired.

So, if the rumors are that shes going to be fired I dont believe it one bit, and I think Ryan was right last night.

But still does anyone really think that the public is going to believe her lame excuse for what happened???
Come on, America is smarter then that!!

If this happened to Randy or Simon, maybe you'd buy it but you cant buy it with Paula and her erratic history.

Totally not about AI...just jumping on the SUV Robin Williams comments.

Did any of you see August Rush? Robin Williams plays a creepy character in it...and he plays it sooo well! Great movie, if you haven't seen it. Well worth renting.

I did some research on the ethnic origins of Jason, Syesha, and David Archuleta and this is what I found out:

Jason's parents are COLUMBIAN.

Syesha's mom is AFRICAN-AMERICAN and her dad is of CUBAN descent.

David Archuleta's mom is HONDURAN and his dad is of BASQUE descent.

The BASQUES are an ethnic group that inhabit parts of north central Spain and south western France.

If you're going to LABEL people, please, everyone, get your facts straight. Thank you.

Also, from what I've read about David Archuleta's music "career" I don't think he's been doing that much since he won on Star Search other than appear on a couple of early morning talk shows and maybe a couple of local competitions in Utah. I don't understand where everyone got the idea that he's been performing for years. He didn't sing for a long time because his vocal cords were paralyzed and he had to wait for them to heal. He's just been attending school and going to church and helping out his neighbors. I read that he once did yard work for one neighbor who was pregnant and refused to accept any money from her. He would just show up every week and clean up her yard without being asked.

Don't get me wrong, I love David Cook. I think he's a fanstastic singer and I think he's destined for greatness but I still like David Archuleta and I think he would be much better if he could get out of his father's shadow and step it up a bit. At least David Cook doesn't have to be on pins and needles all the time with his father criticizing and yelling at him all the time over his performances like David Archuleta does. There's a good reason why David Archuleta doesn't open up on stage like David Cook does and that reason is his father.

(That last one wasn't to Paula either)

[singing...I see those brunettes, and I feel so sorry for them, cuz whenever I'm around, all the men ignore em...cuz I'm a blonde yeah, yeah, yeah] (Chicky's Theme Song)

Well crap - that message wasn't for Paula - DOH - I am entirely too blonde today!

Yikes - I was guessing and I got 9 right - does that make me, like you know, like um, like Paula?

I plan to kill myself later today.

Linda - I'd say "get a life" but you already have such a full one with your wonderful family and all your writing. Soooo - we'll forgive you for knowing all there is to know about Ms. Abdul. Besides - if you didn't know, who would keep us laughing throughout our looooooooong boring days at "work." LOL! I'm proud of your score. You too -Sue. 8 outta 10.... hmmmmm Me thinks Me have some Paula studying to do. Maybe I'll wait a few days and see if I've learned anything..... or if I'm on my second song yet.

I got 8 out of 10....could NOT believe the vagina comment. OMG!!!!!!

I scored 9 out of 10. Methinks me knows too much about Paula Abdul.

Going to kill myself now...

To Ginny: Holy Cow! That was a moniter spew..... the Rosario from Will & Grace thing. Geeeeeeeeshhhhhhh........... I actually blew my hernia out too. Ouch.... Oh well - it was worth it. That's one of the funniest things I've read yet on here! (by us blogmunity folks, of course, Linda - not including you - you're always top dog in the funny category.)

Ummmm - OMG - you guys have GOT to go to this site and try the "Did Paula Say It" quiz. Linda - you too! I wanna know how ya'll score. I'll rat myself out and say I only got 5 outta 10 right. Ah well - that was just my first turn, wait, maybe it was the second? Did I sing yet? LOLOL!

I really need to finish compiling all my thoughts before I hit the "post" button. If AI really wanted to infuse some life into the juggernaut, they could bring in Robert Plant and Jimmy Page as guest judges. Oh my, I would actually PAY to watch that episode! Linda, can you just start a whole new thread for Led Zeppelin, pwetty pwease? :-)

oops...Groban

Tiffany! I haven't heard Ray's version of "Since I've Been Loving You," but I've been itchin' for years to hear anything by Led Zeppelin -- some of the best stuff EVER written -- which leads me to believe that their songbook is probably not available to American Idol performers.

I was listening to a local talk radio show in the car on Wednesday morning when American Idol was being discussed. When they played a blip of David A.'s song, I was impressed with just how pure and beautiful his voice is. He's not much of a visual performer, for sure, but he is marketable in the same huge way, I think, that Josh Grobin is. Maybe DA needs to learn some Italian?

If David Cook is reading this blog, Tiffany had some GREAT song choices for you!

I am totally addicted to this show!!! The acting is suburb & Mariska Hargitay is fabulous...her episode last week when she went undercover in the women's prison was riviting & Emmy worthy. No...Robin Williams character did not drown & he will be back.....just when is anybody's guess, but they left the door wide open.

Regarding the buzz that the judges' comments are scripted: If that's the case, Paula needs to FIRE her writer, 'cuz her comments usually reek!

I agree with earlier posters that AI doesn't manipulate the voting but it is clear that they try to manipulate EVERYTHING else. There are times when I find this so amusing because it seems like they don't learn when their attempts at manipulation backfire. It's like they still don't understand their voting audience. After the debacle the previous night and the unfair situation of having Jason sing AFTER hearing that the dream keeper Paula didn't like his performance of his second song, Jason's fans were going to rabidly take to their phones for the injustice of it all. Even folks who don't believe that Jason is their cup of musical tea tossed him a vote or two.

Oh and a shout out to the SVU episode with Robin Williams - GREAT GREAT GREAT. And no that man didn't drown - we would have heard a splash.

Sue, I know you were asking Ginny, but I did see Law & Order SVU with Robin Williams about sheep. He makes such a good bad guy, and I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him...no way he drowned. He'll show up again, don't ya think? It was a good show!

I never miss SVU! I may miss AI, but never SVU. Robin Williams was great. I love it when he plays someone deviant. I thought the sheep thing was brilliant. I cannot wait for the rerun on USA of that episode.

Anyone else catch it?

One more thing ~ the group song last night made me cringe. It was like watching a really, really, bad high school musical. I was embarrassed for the singers and the fact that I was watching...actually fast forwarded though it as I did much of the show. Can I tell you again how great Tivo is? HA

sorry but one more thing i forgot to mention in my post...if david a had some serious black, thick rimmed glasses on and wearing his usual members only jacket he would look an awfully lot like rosario on will and grace...g.

I just started watching Idol this season. I've watched all previous seasons but for some reason wasn't that interested this time around. Has it jumped the shark yet? HA.

Anyway, after Paula's "mix-up" the other or night I've become very sceptical about the judging and if the show is "fixed" somehow. Paula's a complete ditz...and most likely still addicted to pain medication. That being said, how did she mess up the simplest thing the other night?

First off, she already had notes about a second song that hadn't been performed yet? So either the judges are making notes and judging the rehearsals...which is ridiculous in itself. The other more likely scenario is that someone else is writing her notes.

One more gripe...I miss the 1/2 hour results show. I don't want to see the goofy Ford commercials and watch Randy model the new Coca Cola cups the judges use. It would be more exciting to see what type of beverage occupies those cups (especially the cup in the middle). Thank goodness for Tivo. I can't can't take any more plugs for all the new albums coming out by mostly washed up or little known artists.

And lastly, I love my Tivo but hate that AI usually runs over and I miss all the tears at the end.

As annoyed as I am I'm sure I'll keep watching. LOL.

Thanks Linda for your timely update after each show. You always make my day.

Sorry for the double post!

To Sue in MD: I don't believe that the producers monkey around with the results. I'm not sure if AI is considered a game show, but if it is, I believe that the quiz show scandal in the 50s put an end to those kinds of manipulations. Consequently, the show couldn't guarantee a diverse final four -- that would be America VOTING for it, and I don't think that America was deeply concerned about diversity (by the way, you identified Jason and Syesha as minorities -- don't forget, Archie's Mexican (at least, mom is, can't speak for Scary Dad)). Brooke was simply bleeding fans, and I say this as a humongous Brooke supporter. Moreover, Syesha has pulled off increasingly stronger performances over time -- she got better as Brooke got worse. As for Jason, lots of people simply dig his vibe. Nuff said.

As for next week, here's me hoping that Syesha surprises the hell out of us and does what I've been praying for since I heard Corinne Bailey Rae do it -- a soulful, stripped down take on Led Zeppelin's "Since I've Been Lovin' You." Of course, I don't imagine it would occur to her because I suspect she has never heard it, and even if she has, isn't clever enough to consider the possibility. Sigh.... With our luck, she'll fall back into her old ways and try to do Aretha. Double sigh.... I fear that "Chain of Fools" is in my immediate future.

Jason might pull out The Everly Brothers. "Dream" would be a good choice for him, especially if he did something unique with it. If he does pull out Bob Marley, "Redemption Song" would be an exquisite choice. He could have a "Hallelujah" moment with that song. Or maybe he'll just say screw it, entertain us all with the "propriety" of the choice(;-)), and sing "White Rabbit!"

Archie will probably break my heart and pull out Marvin Gaye. Given all of the emphasis on the environment recently, Little Up With People might sing "Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology)." At which point, I will commit aural hari kiri and slice off my ears. Oh horrors, what if he goes all diva on us and takes on Etta James' "At Last?" Heaven help us all!

Cookie will, of course, make the most interesting choices. I'd love to see him do a rock take on an Otis Redding hit, maybe even a Sam Cooke/Otis Redding two-fer with a rock take on "A Change is Gonna Come." How freakin' classy would THAT be? I wonder if he could do something interesting with "House of the Rising Sun?" Or maybe a rocked out version of "Woodstock," but without a full band backing him? Or maybe Elvis Costello's "Alison?" Oh, glory! Next week could be so, so good...

Speaking of sheep...did you see this week's Law & Order SVU w/Robin Williams???

the look on paulas face last night...her entire demeaner...looked as if she had just been thru rehab or was major doses of haldol...like her skin had gone thru a serious exfoliation and hours at some "spa"...looked more whipped than david a usually does...
jason...holy crap how did he get thru to next week???...and like he even cares...i think hes been used to going thru life and getting what he wants too long...
david a looked like he had just fouled his papmers in a major way...im sick of it...
david c...i think he thought maybe it was going to be another one of those shows like when michael got the undesreved boot...but he belongs in the finals...
syesha and brook...gahhhhh ok you all i sat on the edge of my bed holding my breath...
the the words came out of ryans head...
the dogs began to howl...the cat hocked up a calico colored hair ball...armagedon...the rapture...the end of my american idol journey came to an end...and brook took it much better than i did...she showed more hummanity in those few moments she had left onstage than that entire show has all season...she was genuinely sad...she was raw and vaunerable...human...
an article in our newspaper reveiled that those children of the corn up front...they are hand picked and have to look a certain way...told exactly how to wave theyre collective arms and to stand at all times...the audiance is told when to sit and stand...and we sit like sheep each week watching...yes we have questioned it...but were sheep...45 million votes this week???yeah right...i want them to publish who got what votes...i want them to tell us how much and who gave to iddol gives back...its a crock...all a money grabbing crock of donkey crap...
and heres the latest news flash...
david a has made it to the top two on so you think you can dance...ok i made that up...but its as believeable as knowing jason castro has gotten this far on nothing but a voice made for a childrens sing along cd.
linda loved your take on it all..."ide like to buy a howel please"....hahah wonderful...
now isnt there anything we can do about voicing our problems with the show???...
there seems to be enough of us that know they are trying to fool us...so why isnt there a way we can lambaste them for this farce they call voting or judging???...
and for those who know mell brooks films...in high anxiety the evil nurse says..."those who do not behave dont get fruit cup"...i dont wanna behave...i want to be herd...

I was a Jason Castro fan from the beginning - well, from the beginning of when Idol started showing him. I think he is the only one of the top people who didn't get any air time in the audition round.

However, the last few weeks he has started boring me until the start of the group song last night. Where has that Jason been! Hopefully he can come back next week.

Yeah, Cracklin' Rosie was a lost opportunity.

So next week is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame week. Wikipedia listing of inductees:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Rock_and_Roll_Hall_of_Fame_inductees
Cut and paste your little hearts out.

Any guesses on who's doing what and how well they can pull it off? We have a pool going on whether or not Jason does a Bob Marley song.

I just want to know when the hell they're going to do Opera Week.

I think this Idol ship is sinking fast. This season is shaping up to be a big ol' snoozefest.

I can't stand Pimpchuleta, and have no idea why the judges think it'd be good to see him around until the finale. He needs to go away...

I couldn't agree less with the "all white top 4" comment. That wasn't smart. Let's review Season 5:

1) Taylor Hicks
2) Kat McPhee
3) Elliott Yamin
4) Chris Daughtry

Syesha stayed this week because she's better (or at least more marketable, since it's pretty evident that this show is rigged) than Brooke was. There's no other reason

We have had similar problems with needing to record more shows than Tivo could handle at one time (watching live tv is just awful). Solution for us was to hook up another Tivo. Just a suggestion to ease your frustration with missing part of the show.

We watch it all, warts and everything. But it's getting harder to justify the time. Does this mean that AI is reaching it's end?

FOX NEEDS to find a compassionate way to usher the losing contestant off the show. Brooke took it really hard (even though she should have already come to grips with the fact that she wasn't going to be around much longer) and it's really unnecessary to subject them to that ultimate indignity. If the bottom two have to sing let them do it before the results are made known (not a new idea - it's been done already).

Seems like FOX is beginning to realize that they've nearly milked all the benefits out of this concept and people are getting tired of the incessant sniping among the judges and the host. I know we are and it won't take much to tune in to something else in that time slot on another channel

When the judges were on Larry King Live they said they see the performances 3 times - during rehearsals and then the show. So I think Paula just had her notes from the rehearsals in front of her. No scandal there. But the fact that she couldn't remember where they were in the show - only on the first song- is telling. She seemed a lot more coherent during the auditions than she does during the show. I thought she admitted she was on pain medicine for her back a few years back. Is it a legitimate fog or an addicted one? It comes out as a drunken stupor on the show and reduces her credibility. I have found I just discount whatever she says, like most people.

Can't believe I'm the first one to comment on "goldfish in the heels." "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka"! Right, Linda? That movie had some of the funniest moments of all time.

Poor Brooke, having to sing after she got the heave-ho. I think she should have told them to stuff it--she was having a really hard time holding herself together.

This season has no excitement, yet I continue to watch...WHY? I do love David Cook, but everything and everyone else is so boring I always tape it and then FF through it. I watch because I HAVE to read your column afterwards, Linda, and can appreciate your comments more for having watched, even though they'd be funny even if I didn't! As for the waving arms, I wish a giant lasso would come down and take them all to that great cornfield in the sky, where the thresher would make short work of them!
