I realize I bang this drum a lot, and if you're tired of it, I suppose my best piece of advice is to find another www that better suits your eardrums.
That being said, BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG.
We live in a world inhabited by all kinds of people. All colors, religions, belief systems, cultures. And while we may not understand or embrace a culture apart from our own, I still believe in the final analysis that it is our differences that make the world a more interesting place, and ultimately make us better human beings.
You may not understand another's faith and that is fine. As long as you don't revile it simply because it is not your own. What you believe is what you have been taught to believe by someone who was taught to believe it by someone who was taught to believe it, and on and on. Your faith, just as your palate, is largely a product of geography. Where you were born and raised have the lion's share to do with what you eat and how you pray.
Your love of babyback ribs and the Christian god don't make you right and more virtuous than someone who eats Palek Paneer and worships Vishnu.
Our respect and acceptance of one another is at the root of our humanity.
At least for decent humans.
Unfortunately, as we see every single day, there are those among us who elevate themselves above their fellow human beings, believing they are more virtuous, more holy, more worthy of rights, support, dignity.
No where is that more evident than in the constant bashing of the LGBT demographic.
We have legislation attempting to deny them basic rights; we have pastors banging their pulpits and instructing their congregants to punch their four year old sons who dare to touch a Barbie doll, and to tart up their young daughters who aspire to sports a little too aggressively; and we have parents raising children to believe that it is ok to bully their LGBT peers.
It is shameful. It is wrong. And it needs confronted head on everytime one of these cowardly, backwards, bigoted assholes opens their piehole.
Today's candidates for I-Need-Punched-In-My-Ugly-Ignorant-Mouth? Bryan Fischer of American Family Association and Peter LaBarbera, the President of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH).
Fischer took to the airways to, ironically, fuck MLK's I Have A Dream speech right up the ass in his attempt to validate his belief that homosexuals don't count.
Grabbing onto the portion where King famously said he hopes his children would, "live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character," Bryan declared, "You begin to see the implications when it comes to homosexuality, because you're dealing there with issues of content of character. You are dealing with issues of behavior and conduct, and it's perfectly appropriate to discriminate against immoral conduct."
Content of character. I see.
Mr. Fischer, every LGBT person I know has more character in the littlest toenail on their left foot than you do in your entire sick body. Character is about how you navigate this world, how you treat the people you meet in it, how you respond to the treatment you receive.
You sir, suffer from a complete famine of character. You are a dustbowl where dignity, grace, tolerance, and love will never grow - having been choked out, parched, ripped from the roots and discarded.
Instead, what you have is a swamp, an inner quagmire where emotionally stunted bacteria grows and flourishes. Where bigotry, stupidity, egoism, and callous disregard are lovingly fertilized by hatred.
Oh, you have a surplus of hatred stored in the grain silos of your heart.
LaBarbera, an equally adept purveyor of verbal sewage trumpets, "There's lots of government and states, whether they're Muslim or like ardently Christian nations like Uganda that don't want, they don't share the caviler attitude of the West toward homosexuality, they certainly don't want to promote it. And all of a sudden Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have turned the United States into a pro-homosexual regime and it's just despicable."
Pro-homosexual regime?
Give me a f*cking break. (How laughable to me that the same Muslims you openly decry as terrorists, every single one, are somehow lauded by you because there are Islamic based governments where homosexuality is a crime, and places in Africa where corrective rape is the go-to cure for a lesbian.)
This country is about ALL people, not just you "real Amuricans" who tote guns, carry a Bible you never read, and only have sex in the missionary position.
You cry and scream about mandated healthcare so we can adequately tend to our citizens, and your ballsac starts to sweat whenever anyone even broaches the subject of gun control because you don't want anyone telling you how to live your life or take away what you consider to be your "God given liberties," yet you see no problem in denying liberties to others, telling me what I can and cannot do with MY body, and dictating what you consider to be morality.
You hypocritical POS.
You cannot legislate a person's sexual orientation. You cannot beat it out of your four year old son. You cannot frill it up and out of your lesbian daughter.
Just as I cannot take a stick and beat the shit and ignorance out of you.
Hurt a homosexual person and they cry, just like you. Tell them a joke, and they laugh, just like you. Cut them open and they bleed red, just like you. They don't ooze some purple homo juice that's going to infect you and change your orientation.
LaBarbera, Fischer, and all your likeminded ilk - you are wastelands of hypocrisy. You are stagnating cesspools of vile mental filth. And you are losing. You will lose.
Because those of us who embrace differences, who do not wake each day with fear of "the other," who see religion more and more as a means to a despicable end, and who have open hearts and minds are overtaking you.
And we have had enough of your haterosexuality.
I, too, have a dream. And YOU, sirs, are nowhere in it.
