Soccer fans that we are, Rudy and I both haunt sites like Goal.com, and the girls and I watch plenty of international soccer on the TV.
I have favorite players, a player I refer to as a More (man whore), and follow one English team in particular - my Chelsea boys.
Player buys happen often, with the guys being traded like commodities on the stock exchange. When they are hot, they are high priced and highly sought after by other teams, both for their skill and for their name recognition.
Four such young men are emerging as standouts on the Napoli team - Ezequiel Lavezzi (23), Marek Hamsik (21), Walter Gargano (24) and Fabiano Santacroce (22).
Speculation is rife that many teams, including Chelsea are looking at buying them. This, of course, does not sit well with Napoli president and movie mogul, Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Fed up with all the hype, he issued this statement, "We made these players — two years ago nobody knew who they were."
That would be fine, and even justified - after all, he's technically correct. However, he decided to follow that remark with this golden nugget, "If they want to go to England then in the end they're going to go, but they need to understand this: the English live badly, eat badly and their women do not wash their genitalia. To them, a bidet is a mystery."
Nothing like dirty genitalia to put the fear of moving into a young Italian man, huh?
In soccer parlance, I do believe he deserves a red card.
You know, I was familiar with the stereotype about the English having bad teeth, but this??

Well Chris was Swedish by birth so I'm not sure if she counts, but she had lived there 18 years and um...I had no complaints in that department.
Didn't get the chance to examine any others while I was there, but neither was I repelled by extreme lack of hygeine when hugging other women...and had some discussions about grooming, etc with British women...I think he's off base. ;-)

Ummm...I hope I'm not the only one who doesn't have a bidet.

No, MJH, you are NOT the only one who doesn't have a bidet! Talk about a broad generalization (oops - no pun intended!). I wonder if he assumes that Americans have poor genital hygene since very few of us have bidets? LOL

I am dying laughing. As an Italian this is such a typical, dramatic response.
Linda, if you think YOU love soccer, you should spend some time in Italy. Frankly, I often think that soccer is Italy's sole reason for existence these days THAT is the level of passion they have for everything from their local clubs to their premier leagues.
