Haywire IRL
Haywire: adj 1. out of control; awry 2. crazy 3. Paul's amazing, thoroughly enjoyable band
With Hurricane Ike's threats far off to the east, and the sun firmly back in the Austin skies, the girls and I, joined by Kittypimp and her happy band of estrogen, journeyed out to Lake Travis last evening to finally take in Haywire - DGMS regular Paul's band.
Drawing from definition #2 above, the only thing that is 'crazy' is that we didn't go sooner.
It was wonderful to finally meet Paul and his lovely wife, Betty, in person (even got to meet a beautiful granddaughter! I love when a cyber friendship goes 3-D! Seeing someone you know so much about come to life is surreal, but in an awfully good way!
As you can see by the pics, a good time was had by all, and it is a good time that we plan on repeating SOON. Haywire is PHENOMENAL. That is not hyperbole or me fawning for the sake of fawning. It is rare to find a band that can play so tight and with, as Paul pointed out, so much "chemistry." From covers to original tunes, it is easy to see that the guys of Haywire are a 'family' which truly enjoys what they do.
So if you are in the Austin area, look at your calendars and mark down Friday, October 10! They will be performing again at The Oasis, and the Gnome & I plan on being in attendance!

Paul on the keyboards!
The Travel Gnome getting into the "spirit" of things

Carson and I on the dance floor
The Travel Gnome gettin' some luuuv

Looks like fun!

I would LOVE to meet Paul in person. There are so many wonderful people on this blog, but I truly believe Paul is one of the wisest, most well-spoken and intelligent. I have a deep respect for him and his opinions.
Paul, if you're ever up here in the Dallas area, please let me know (through Linda). I would love to see your show and say hello!

We were planning to come but were afraid, due to the hurricane, we would be unable to get a room anywhere. Maybe we can make it next month. Looks like a good time.

Denise! We finally get to put a face to your name! I have to say, you french kissing the Gnome gave me the willies (I think of the Gnome as my boss whom we call the TROLL - they look so much that he literally could have posed for the drawing)...anyway, it looks like you all had a wonderful time. I love Carson's theatrical pose!

Thanks for the review, Linda. It was great to meet you, Culley, Carson and Kendall (as well as Denise and Kat) in person, and I'm so glad we performed well (I think we always perform well, but it's nice to get outside affirmation).
On a funny note, you know your career may be on the twilight side when the band finishes with a rousing crescendo of guitars, bass, keyboards and drums, the singer says "THANK YOU, GOODNIGHT!" and in the following roar of the crowd I hear a voice that says, "WE LOVE YOU GRANDPA!" Kind of ruins the rock god image I have of myself! Whatever, we had a great time and look forward to another IRL in October. Thanks again!

Thanks for the kind words, Lori. Come on down to Austin for our show on October 10th, and we'll have another DGMS IRL. Don't know for sure when we're playing in the Dallas area again, and when we do it's usually a corporate event or a wedding reception, although we did play the Plano Balloon Festival a couple of years ago...

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Oasis!!! I wish I could have been there with you! Paul, I don't know how far out your schedule goes, but we'll be down in Austin for a corporate retreat in March. Even if you're not playing, I would love to meet up with you and Linda at the Oasis!

All I can say is "Thank goodness the Gnome was laminated!"

We have nothing booked in March yet. Let us know when you'll be in town and maybe I (and Linda) can put it on our respective calendars to meet and just hang out at the Oasis. My only regret this last Saturday is that I didn't have more time to sit and visit with Linda, KittyPimp, and the Estrogen Gang (had to visit other friends/fans, eat some food, visit the little boys' room, and TCB during our break, ya know). I would have loved to have gotten to chat with the DGMS Austin contingent more than I did. Ah, well, that's show biz!
