F Bomb Detonates Career?

Everyone from presidents to preachers have been caught mumbling, cursing, or even dissing another person while wearing a microphone they thought was not on.

President Bush has done it numerous times, one of the most notable being an exchange with Tony Blair in which they mocked Syrian leader Bashar Assad as "sweet" and " a honey".  Bush then elaborated that Syria should tell Hezbollah to "stop doing this sh*t" to resolve the Lebanon crisis.

I don't think that disturbs me near as much as Bush getting Tony's attention with the words , "Yo, Blair..."

CNN's Kyra Phillips chatted it up in the ladies room not realizing she was also taking world viewers along for an exclusive poop scoop.

It also works in the inverse.  Radio DJ Andy Grenier forgot to push the button on his mic and spent an entire hour broadcasting ... to himself.

I'm betting MSNBC anchor Sue Simmons is wishing that had been her mistake...

I'd say that's not putting your foot in your mouth - that's swallowing your whole damned leg!

Simmons maintains she thought they were recording the segment, and did not know they were actually LIVE.

Speculation has been rife since Monday's "bombing" that her 28 year career may be effed as well, however, the station released this statement of support yesterday afternoon...

"Sue Simmons is a highly valued 30-year veteran of WNBC. Sue, along with WNBC, remains deeply sorry for her offensive remark on Monday night for which she quickly apologized. It was an unfortunate mistake that she truly regrets."

Wow, that's pretty f*cking nice.

Ooops...

OK, what I want to know is WHAT prompted that???? Who was she talking to??? I didn't find that at all offensive - I thought it was really funny, and I wish I'd been watching it live. Thanks for sharing that, Linda. I hadn't heard anything about it, and I sincerely hope her career isn't ended over something so minor and - yes - funny.

I'm with you, Lori - I want to know what made her say it :)

Reminds me of something that happened a few weeks ago at work. There were some girls in the hotel soliciting our housekeepers by trying them to come to a meeting to organize a union here. I went down to tell them that there was a "no solicitation" policy at the hotel. They proceeded to get VERY rude with me as I was escorting them out. One of the girls called me a dirty ho while waving her arms to and fro - this got on my last nerve - I said something to the effect of, "just get the F out", I turned around and there was a television camera in my face. SH*T. I fessed up to what I did to the PTB, but I got in all kinds of trouble for that one - luckily, they didn't air it. My advise to Sue Simmons, switch F*CK to Freak!

No big deal. Of course, it will be blown all out of proportion, but that's what the media is for!

According to some sources Simmons and her co-anchor, Chuck Scarborough, were doing some voice-overs for promos for their 11PM news broadcast. After she read her part off the teleprompter for a segment on grocery shopping, the screen changed to a new subject that CS was to comment on. Instead, he was doing something on his computer and missed his cue. She later stated that she thought they were taping these intros. Not a legitimate excuse, certainly, but S**T happens! I'll bet she's much more careful in what she says in the future. And CS will pay attention to business, no doubt.

In this age of "little brother" (where anyone could have a camera on you) and political correctness, its no wonder she's in trouble. Should she be? No way! If she apologized, then that should be enough. We are all of us human. Well, most of us, anyway.

This was an off air argument between two of LA's well known news anchors.

Damn. Was trying to embed something from YouTube but it didn't do it.

Send me the link, I'll grab it and put it up for you...

It is audio only tho....but still pretty funny.

What should be a non-story is a big deal because everyone is so hypersensitive. The same people who called in to "complain" probably told their spouse at dinner "Don't like what I cooked? You can effing make dinner yourself."

Walk down any street in NYC and you will hear worse.

My last comment was not to Maria. Forgot to change my name back. Need more caffeine.

This is a link to the audio of the argument several years ago "off air" prior to going on for the evening news and the anchors get into it. You can hear Paul Moyer angrily straightening his paper on the desk as he gets madder and madder. He is plain nasty to his co-anchor. I love the "shooters" remark. And the slam against another stations male anchor.

Linda, I've lurked on your blog so long I feel I can use your first name. I am absolutely shocked at what has come to pass for conversation. As a parent, the more commonplace this sort of language is accepted, the more prevalent it will be for our children to use it. My 12 year old told a neighborhood kid to get out of our yard if he had to use "that" sort of language. (The F* bomb). I think that Sue Simmons needs her mouth washed out with soap.
