Another great week for the ladies...

Lakisha and Melinda "Lilly Tomlin" Doolittle rocked it yet again. I think Jordin and Sabrina will stick around to give them a run for their money, but I'm with you Linda, it's some girl on girl action this season. (yipes)

Even if AI chose to act seemingly blind to Antoiletta-gate, thanks for addressing it. I think her days on my TV screen are numbered, thank God. Between her placement in the purgatory of the soon-to-be forgotten-and-not-voted-for, and her snarky attitude trying to rebut Simon's valid criticism, I think she'll be gone (not soon enough for me.) All I could think was, "Linda was right, she went for the Legs exposure again," and after she sniped to Simon that he was wrong about Jennifer Hudson, I thought, "She just shot herself in her always-tacky-colored-pump-covered-foot."

The girls as a group definitely were in Wizard of Oz Technicolor brightness compared to the boys' black and white Kansas. I just have one question - they do know there are other singers besides Whitney, Celine & Xtina, don't they? It always amazes me when anyone has the cojones to tackle songs by such HUGE voices. Almost NO one can really carry it off - they need a little reality check...

Gina - loud but still almost drowned out by the pipes behind her in her too-tight dress. Maybe we have another Melinda back there needing to take a step forward?

Alaina - sweet video, looked great, bleh singing.

LaKisha, awesome singing - hated the skirt. LOVE her attitude!

Melinda literally gave me chills. Did anyone notice she even almost got Paula to clap like a normal human instead of a deranged seal? (MissyKissy made me laugh calling her Lily Tomlin - they could def. be related!) Again, LOVE her humility.

Antonella- blech squared. Not only does she have poor (make that no) judgement in how she spends her free time but she is seriously deluded to a. Agree with Paula and b. Think she can take on Simon and win.

Jordin - so cute, a little all over the place but not Antonella bad, by any means.

Stephanie - looked spectacular, like a classy star, but I just didn't like the song.

Leslie- better than last week, like her jazzy sound but the outfit was weird and wasn't that the same song AJ sang the night before? I can't believe no mention from Linda on the gold Frisbees she was wearing for earrings! :)

Haley - the whole thing sounded forced to me and the girl does not have the CHOPS to win in a comparison to Whitney. At least it wasn't a power ballad. The background Melinda-in-the-making again almost took the song.

Sabrina - Yes, more Whitney but she could def. handle it. She earned the coveted 10 spot.

This week, all my props go to the backups. Tuesday, it was the drummer doing the d*mn thing, tonight, it was the backup singers. I'm telling you, the way those backups were throwing down, I could listen to them sing the label on a bag of trash bags. As for the gals, I love me some Melinda and LaKisha and Stephanie. Jordin was so-so, all that darn crying annoys me. We get it, you love your brother. I do too, but I don't tear up every 3 seconds about it.
TRAMPONELLA HAS GOT TO GO. Enough said.
The other ladies were ok, but none made me wanna rush to vote for them, a la Melinda. All in all, the ladies are up 2 weeks to none. The guys have to know they are going to get their butts kicked in the final 12, don't they? I wouldn't be surprised if we have 3 or 4 women as our final group. Girls rule!!

Oh how I hope Legs is gone this week. If she is, I will gladly listen to her one final time, and be glad all the goings on with her will cease. BTW, it was my 11 year old daughter who noticed "her dress is being eaten by her butt" with all the shots from the rear, um, back.
Leslie would be fun and a good act in Vegas or a comedy club. I know the "giraffe" didn't make the cut to 40 (what was her name?) but, Leslie seems to move like a giraffe or a teenager who is still discovering how her body is supposed to move as she gets longer and taller...
I think Haley REALLY needs a huge song next week. Her future could be bright, if she comes across more natural. I loved her look tonight.
My dark horse to win it all? Jordin. I think her attitude and joy are great, and she can belt it out. I think the final four will be: LeKisha/Melinda/Stephanie/Jordin.
Within that group, I have a tough time seeing Jordin come out on top.
Do you think any guy has any shot at the four? Not yet from what we've seen!

Have you noticed that when someone like Melinda (or Lakisha) sings, the background vocalists blend perfectly and effortlessly in with the performance, framing the singer like a halo? And that when someone like Alaina or Haley sings (or even Gina) the background singers seems to overpower and distract from the singer? I don't know how that happens, whether it's intentional or just a reflection of the good singers' control and musical mastery, or just because weak singers can't even bring it to the level of the background singers. Or maybe the background singers just like some of the contestants (or material) better than others... hmmm.

Anyway, Melinda was my favorite last week. This week? She absolutely stunned me - gave me goosebumps. I don't really like My Funny Valentine but I could (and did) listen to her sing that over and over and over.

I thought Lakisha was very good also, but I get a bit of an emotional disconnect that I can't really describe adequately. It was technically good but I've heard more interesting versions of that, including Paris' last season.

Stephanie - of the HOT Daddy - was lovely, her performance was enjoyable and well-sung, but I'm not crazy for the song, and she didn't make me love it.

Jordin seemed to be auditioning for Disney. I think she's more poised, more expressive and livelier than Lisa last year, but she still seems like a girl surrounded by women (which she is).

I like Leslie's original/band music and her smokey vocal quality, but she has made the same mistake as Brandon in picking songs that don't show it off or make her stand out.

I like Gina's lower register, but found both of her performance missing...something. She was a bit pitchy and can't really compare to Carrie, so she probably should have picked something else.

I should probably like Sabrina, but I do think Simon's right. She is shouty. Both performances. Personally, I think she's the weakest of the Divas. She is a beautiful young woman though.

Haley was doing a cheerleading routine, wasn't she?

Antonella makes me want to hide my head under a pillow to muffle the noise. I really cannot believe that she copped a 'tude after that vocal travesty. Much as I get a kick out of VFTW, I just can't bring myself to join them on this one. Go home Barby.

Alaina, wow talk about killing a great song. There was nothing above kareoke about it, she was overpowered by the background singers and I still don't understand how she beat out more talented singers into the Top 24. Oh wait, yes I do. She's pretty.

About the crying....I wish ppl who aren't criers would leave those of us that are alone. Its just not nice (and it makes us cry harder!) when you demean our emotions.

Jordin obviously loves her brother and has a hard time not getting a little worked up about it. I feel the same way about my sister and my children. Start waxing poetically about either of those 2 subjects and tears WILL fall. It only takes the thought of losing them or being separated from them and rivers start running.

Now...complicate that with SEVERE nervous energy and adrenaline and you will have ME boo hooing uncontrollably!

I think Jordin held it together pretty well considering her emotions.....and as the tears dropped down my face in empathy with hers I thought, "what better reward is there for a parent than to have such a beautiful daughter that chokes up over her love for the sibling you gave her?"

Thank God my husband gets this totally and agreed. (all without making fun of me for crying!

While I did simply love Melinda's version of MFV - it was the exact same version by Chaka Khan from Waiting to Exhale. Lakeisha had a good performance and I'm not a fan of Beyonce's so Stephanie's performance was sort of lost on me. Simon should have met Barba in the parking lot and spanked her for mouthing off like that! Comparing herself to JH is like indicating Paula might NOT be on something 87.25% of the time on AI!

Antonella Barba = Driver of a jet-fueled dragster headed straight for a brick wall with a fouled parachute.

Antonella Barba Mouthing Off to Simon Last Night = Same driver, same dragster, same wall, same parachute... driver now holds a loaded .357 Magnum to her skull and smiles vapidly as she pulls the trigger.

Way to go, dipstick. Your parents must be soooooo proud.

What? no mention of the ice cream thing? yayy....Kellie is on tonight! I CALLED IT! lol, having a lot of Idol-SP this season (like ESP, but for Idol). A week late on my Pickler guest prediction, but whatever. Haven't heard the new song, so I hope she sings it tonight. Who I think is going home out of the girls? either Leslie, Haily, of Alana.I do like Alana, and Haily proved to be pretty good this week, but I'm not America, am I?
