It's not exactly surprising.
Well, wait, scratch that.
There IS one surprising component to Cheney opening his fearmongering yap regarding the Christmas Day terrorist attempt to bring down an airplane via incendiary underwear.
That he waited this many days to do it.
In a statement riddled with hypocrisy and stunning in its disregard for FACT, Cheney - color me shocked - has again taken President Obama and his administartion to task for not jerking their knees and shooting up the world.
Here is his statement, my thoughts follow in red - the color this asshat makes me see every time he crawls out of his undisclosed location:
As I’ve watched the events of the last few days it is clear once again that President Obama is trying to pretend we are not at war.
Pretend we are not at war? Care to explain how your statement squares with the uptick in troops he has comitted to the WAR in Afghanistan? Yeah, I know - those damned dirty FACTS will trip you up every time...
He seems to think if he has a low key response to an attempt to blow up an airliner and kill hundreds of people, we won’t be at war.
No, he seems to understand that an itchy trigger finger is what got us to the brink of economic ruin, global ostracization, and unsubstantiated military moves by the previous administration. You know, DICK, yours. Frankly, I prefer a leader who gathers accurate information, forms complete thoughts, and then acts. I had eight years of a leader who thought God told him what to do so he just did it, falsified information, and rarely, if ever, actually thought about what he was doing.
He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won’t be at war.
You mean the way Richard Reid, the now infamous "Shoe Bomber" was treated under the Bush administration? Arrested in America, held in America, afforded American rights to an attorney, convicted in an American court, now serving time in an American jail. Pray tell, just how were those moves correct and acceptable under Bush & Co., yet somehow they are wrong and anti-American under Obama & Co.? 'Dicky, you've got some 'splainin' to do."
He seems to think if we bring the mastermind of 9/11 to New York, give him a lawyer and trial in civilian court, we won’t be at war.
Enlighten me, oh Dark Lord, how does trying someone involved in the 2001 attacks - which took place ON YOUR WATCH - mean we are not at war?
He seems to think if he closes Guantanamo and releases the hard-core al Qaeda trained terrorists still there, we won’t be at war.
You mean like the two men connected to the Underwear Bomber who were released in 2007 when, and correct me if my memory is faulty here - YOU AND BUSH WERE IN CHARGE?
He seems to think if he gets rid of the words, “war on terror,” we won’t be at war. But we are at war and when President Obama pretends we aren’t, it makes us less safe.
I have yet to hear him even infer we are not still mired in TWO WARS created by you and yours, DICK. Is it because he doesn't go on TV every other night to remind us what Crayola color we are currently under? To make sure we are aware the sky is falling 24 hours a day? What makes us less safe is an obviously frustrated-by-his-powerlessness old war monger and war profiteer (Halliburton) constantly running down every move this administration makes when he should be behind bars for every illegal act he both sanctioned and committed during his two terms in office.
Why doesn’t he want to admit we’re at war?
Again, what part of additional troops and saluting the bodies of fallen soldiers as they arrive back on US soil don't you understand? While there are plenty of feeble minded lemmings in this country, even the majority of them don't need a daily reminder that we are, in fact, at war.
It doesn’t fit with the view of the world he brought with him to the Oval Office. It doesn’t fit with what seems to be the goal of his presidency – social transformation—the restructuring of American society.
You know, I keep hearing this bleating from the right - that he is somehow doing away with their "way of life." Bull and shit. I have yet to see the playing field any more level that the way you and your puppet Prez constructed it to benefit the rich, no one has forcibly taken away your guns, dissolved your religions, or taped your mouth shut so you can't spout your filthy rhetoric.
Quite frankly, we could use with a good restructuring. One that remembers the poor and barely middle class matter. That the Wall Street wunderkinds have raped the ability of millions to retire on a decent timetable, send their children to college, hell, keep their homes.
And stop inferring that socialism is some dirty word, that we have never been exposed to it before. Every single program that exists in government, from milk in schools to the firemen that save my cat if my house is on fire, from the Medicare my parents avail themselves of, to the continual extension of unemployment benefits - is SOCIALISM.
As for that nasty "world view" you want to so easily castigate? Eff off, old man. I want a leader who is not itching to go schoolyard bully on every other country on this planet. I want a leader who values peace, who has the brains, the compassion, the fortitude, and the measured nature to achieve it. And despite his ability to remain cool when things happen, I have no doubt he could kick your decrepit ass in a New York minute AND order a retaliatatory attack if warranted.
Which brings me to the question - just what the hell do you want him to do? Yes, he was in Hawaii when this happened. So what? Your boy was clearing brush in Crawford for a full 2/3s of his second term. Was he supposed to put on a Superman cape and fly to Detroit to personally kick the ass of the would-be bomber? Give me a break. Anyone who thinks he was not completely informed and in the loop is an idiot, plain and simple.
President Obama’s first object and his highest responsibility must be to defend us against an enemy that knows we are at war.
And what was yours? Is that why 3,000 Americans lost their lives on 9/11? Because defending this country was never your highest priority? Your term did not start September 12, 2001, despite the revisionist history of people like Mary Matalin saying you "inherited the 9/11 attacks" and former Bush talking head Dana Perino claiming, "we did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush’s term." WTF?
And your security measures obviously let Richard Reid through the cracks and onto an airplane.
I value a President who stands up and admits that "human, systemic failures" are what made this possible. Well, that, and a whole lot of troubled people in this world who are fools for their religion and who do not value human life. We are at war with an ideology, Mr. Cheney, not a country.
An ideology that comes out of the right in this country against anything this administration does, AND the the jihadist ideology of terrorists who are tentacled all around the globe.
Quite frankly, I'm more afraid of the war within than the war without.
